Post Ref: CC180
The Temporary Accommodation and Support Service is based within Housing Access and offers emergency accommodation and support to eligible homeless households in Calderdale. This is a fast-paced front-line service which has been particularly busy since the start of the pandemic due to supporting more rough sleepers in Calderdale.
The role of the housing support worker is to support homeless clients referred by the Housing Options Team that are residing in the local authority’s temporary accommodation. The role involves supporting clients to address the difficulties that have resulted in homelessness and assist them to secure and move into settled accommodation.
We are dealing with individuals who have experienced significant trauma throughout their lives and who are entrenched in very chaotic lifestyles. This particular client group requires a more trauma informed approach to their support, and a more specialised support worker who can provide practical and emotional support to those with multiple and complex needs.
This role focuses on assessing and identifying needs, co-producing support plans with service users, and taking a lead coordination role where necessary to link in with all relevant services and agencies. The role also requires a more flexible approach to help break down the barriers these clients face when accessing the support they need.
