Post Ref: FWP995As part of the NHS England initiative to extend Individual Placement and Support (IPS) services, we are currently seeking an Employment Specialist for a 32 hour permanent post to be employed by Calderdale Council. The postholder will work as part of an IPS health and social care team and be integrated into our specialist mental health teams to deliver employment support to individuals with severe mental health conditions across Calderdale.
90% of people with severe mental illness say they want to work, but currently only 8% are in work. Getting into employment can be a critical part of a recovery journey, so as an employment specialist you will focus on providing motivational, supportive and person-centred advice to enable service users to secure paid employment. You will work as a member of the mental health teams in the community pathway in Calderdale and carry a caseload of 20-25 people, to raise expectations around the ability of service users to access paid employment and to support people into paid employment related to their preferences and skills.
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about joining us in this exciting new role, to help develop the service and transform lives through enabling people to gain paid employment. You will need a good understanding of people and of mental health problems, with experience of networking and relationship building. This is a dynamic and diverse role where no day is ever the same - determination and strong listening skills are essential as is initiative, the ability to form positive relationships and willingness to spend time with local employers negotiating job opportunities which is a key part of this role. You will be part of a small IPS team and part of the mental health team and have support and supervision with the IPS Team leader. Full specialist training will be provided for this role.
