Post Ref: FWP497An exciting opportunity has become available in Calderdale Libraries for a professionally qualified librarian. The Information Services and Volunteering Librarian will be an enthusiastic advocate for the library service, bringing vision and imagination to a role which combines frontline duties with professional input to service development and the volunteering strategy.
The postholder will be based at the busy Central Library in Halifax, while also fulfilling a wider role across all of Calderdale's 22 library sites.
The borough is eagerly anticipating the opening of a new Central Library & Archive during 2017, forming part of a re-developed cultural quarter around the historic Piece Hall. The new post-holder will be a key member of the Collections & Central Services team whose role is integral to ensuring a smooth transition to the new premises and the success of the library's future operations.
The librarian appointed will have a wide range of appropriate skills and experience, equipping them to fulfil the key elements of this role. Responsibilities will include: strategic oversight of the volunteering programme within the library service; selection and management of specialist stock and resources, including a very significant Local Studies collection; an important role in the service-wide implementation and development of the Public Library Universal Offers, particularly the Information, Digital and Learning Offers; a significant contribution to overall library performance by modelling excellent customer service, encouraging ambition and high standards among staff and offering support for the full range of Reference, Information and Local Studies needs; line-managing a small frontline team in the Central Library, along with casuals and volunteers.Download: Role Profile
